May 22, 2024

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The City of Tuscaloosa on Tuesday announced it will once again host its Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Day on Saturday, June 1.

The City of Tuscaloosa says household hazardous waste is the discarded, unused or leftover portion of household products containing toxic chemicals.

Discarded items will either be neutralized and recycled into new products or safely and properly disposed of.

Household hazardous waste includes:

  • Household cleaners
  • Automotive fluids
  • Paint/paint thinner
  • Herbicides
  • Pool chemicals
  • Batteries
  • Antifreeze
  • Pesticides
  • Oil or gasoline
  • Light bulbs
  • Lawn chemicals/fertilizers.

The city said propane tanks are limited to camp size — one-pound tanks and 20-pound grill size tanks.

Items that won’t be accepted include tires, medical waste, electronics and non-residential or out-of-county wastes. Additionally, wastes will not be accepted from commercial businesses, non-profit organizations or residents outside Tuscaloosa County.

The free event will be a contactless drive-thru and participants will be asked to stay in their vehicle while city staff members unload their items.
