Bemidji City Council to discuss landscaping for Highway 197 project

BEMIDJI — The

will consider final landscaping plans for the proposed Minnesota Department of Transportation project to reconstruct State Highway 197.

The discussion will take place during the council’s Tuesday evening meeting and will include consideration of lighting types, pedestrian trails, boulevard trees and more.

MnDOT has provided a proposed landscaping plan that includes several green spaces, trees alongside the trails and areas that will be planted with native seeds. There are also plans to landscape the center of the roundabouts.

The proposed project has been in process with the city since 2019 when the first design created by MnDOT

Since then, a new design has been created with more city feedback that includes three roundabouts.

A final decision on city approval for the project is expected later this year.
